Tumhare khath main naya ek salam kis ka tha ...

Tumhare khath main naya ek salam kis ka tha,
Naa tha raqeeb to akhir wo nam kis ka tha,

Wo qatal kar ke har kisi se puchte hain,
Yeh kaam kis ne kiya hai ye kaam kis ka tha,

Wafa karenge nibhayenge baat manenge,
Tumhen bhi yaad hai kuch ye kalam kis ka tha,

Raha na dil main wo be-dard aur dard raha,
Muqeem kaun hua hai maqam kis ka tha,

Na pooch-paach thi kisi ki na aao-bhagat,
Tumhari bazm main kal ehtamam kis ka tha,

Guzar gaya wo zamana kahen to kis se kahen,
Khayal mere dil ko subah-o-sham kis ka tha,

Har ek se kahte hain kya Daagh bewafa nikla,
Yeh puche in se koi wo ghulam kis ka tha,

TRANSLATION:

From where came the new greetings in your letter to me,
If not a rival was it then who was he?
After slaughtering us they ask from everyone,
Who has done this deed? Whose work is this?
We will be faithful, trustworthy and true to you,
Do you even remember whose words were these?
The pain giver left but only the pain is left,
Who has stationed here and whose station was it?
There were no invitation nor was there any gathering,
Then whose honor was being celebrated in your company?
Those days have passed that time is gone,
Who shall we say to now, whose thoughts haunted me?
They ask everyone that did "Dagh" turn out unfaithful?
Someone ask them by God, WHOSE SLAVE WAS HE?!

- Dagh Dehalvi

Rumi and Confucius

"Despite the fact that Confucius and Rumi were born in different periods and places, both were born at a time of social upheaval and political turmoil. Consequently, both thinkers tried to provide the means for their people to overcome the times of difficulty, first by understanding, cultivating, and realizing their human potentialities, and then by transforming themselves, their families, and their societies. Interestingly, Rumi and Confucius share more in common than most people would think and their teachings are still meaningful and relevant to the modern world. The wisdom of Confucius and Rumi provides todays readers with spiritual resources to overcome the challenges of our time and to build bridges of understanding and dialogue among different cultures and civilizations. This paper examines the core ideas of these two great thinkers and provides anthropocosmic insights into their ideas on nature, family and music." The Great Sufi Poet of Herat, Jami

Despite being virtually unknown here in America, the outstanding 15th century Persian Sufi, Nuruddin Abdul Rahman Jami was a Sufi poet par excellence. Among the Persian speakers, Jami's following verses - offering glowing praises for Rumi and his magna obra, Masnavi Manavi or Rhyming Couplets of Profound Spiritual Meanings - are widely known and often recited: Maulana Rumi's Masnavi Manavi  is the Quran in Persian language. I'm not saying that his excellency,  Maulana Rumi is a Prophet, but he sure does have a Book.
